英译文能不能译好，理解是关键。有时若机械的按照字面的意思译，会违背原文的意思，甚至造成误解。这时译者就要开动脑筋，根据上下文来判断原文的真正含义是什么，然后加以很好的处理。词义的特性和联系实际的关系以上把词义的种种特性讲完了，这些特性是互相联系、互相渗透的，有一方面来讲清楚，便谈不上活用。词义的特性虽多，但用到具体句子时除词义的本质外，只能显出一种主要的特性，不会各种特性同时显现。一个词在具体句子内占有一定位置，起着一定作用，使句子成为有机联系的整体。这种有机联系性就是客观实际有机联系的反映。一个词放在一个句子内是否能和其他词构成有机的联系，是检验这个词用得是否恰当的句内标准。然后拿整句意思和客观实际去合一合，看看那一词用得是否恰当，才能做出最后决定，是翻译对了还是错了。翻译错的词义必然歪曲实际的真正面貌。例如：

[评析]“国际问题”不能机械的译作 international issue，如果这样译，各国就都可以采取行动，而这肯定不是说话人的本意。应当仔细解读“中国如果不稳定就是个国际问题”的真正含义，这句的意思应是中国如果不稳定会对周边有影响。

2、经济是一个大问题。

[误译]Economy is a big problem.

[正译]Economy is an important(a major)question.

[评析]这句话的本意是说经济是一个很重要、范围很广的问题，如果翻译不假思索，每个字都以对应的英文单词翻译出来，就成了Economy is a big problem其意思是经济出了大问题。

3、要注意解决好少数高级知识分子的待遇问题。我们不论怎么困难，也要提高教师的待遇。这个事情，在国际上都有影响。我们的留学生有几万人。

[误译]We must try to increase the material benefits for the few top intellectuals.No matter how many

[评析]“在国际上有影响”如果译为have international influence，意思不是很清晰，这里应根据上下文判断，理解为会对我们在国外的留学人员产生影响，这就使较为含混的说法清晰易懂。
